Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”
Reflect
Jesus overturns tables in the temple, confronting what has become hollow and exploitative. His anger is not reckless—it is purposeful, aimed at restoring what is sacred.
The temple was meant to be a place of prayer, but it had become crowded with distraction and self-interest. The same can happen within us. Our inner lives, meant for communion with God, can become filled with noise, ambition, and clutter.
Consider
This is an invitation, not a condemnation. What needs to be overturned in your life? What habits or priorities are crowding out space for God?
Pray
Holy God,
Search my heart and clear away what does not belong.
Remove the distractions that keep me from You.
Make my life a place of prayer and presence.
Amen.
