Matthew 21:6-10 (NIV)
The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

Reflect
Jesus enters Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey. The crowds shout praise, yet misunderstand the kind of king He is. They expect power; He brings peace. They want revolution; He offers surrender.
We are not so different. We often want God to act according to our expectations—solve problems quickly, display strength in obvious ways, validate our plans. But Christ’s kingship disrupts all of that. His triumph is humility. His victory is love.
Consider
Where might you be projecting your expectations onto God? Can you welcome the King who comes gently, even when He doesn’t meet your assumptions?
Pray
Lord Jesus,
You come in humility, not in power as we expect.
Help me to welcome You as You are, not as I want You to be.
Teach me to trust Your gentle way.
Amen.
